Customers for over 20 Years & a Disabled Vet

We have been with Verizon FiOS for over 20 years and we were actually the first ones in our neighborhood to have it installed. Our contract ran out in August and we were told not to renew because if we renewed our contract price would go up so we did nothing. Then we get this month Bill and it is $215 versus the $187 it was for the last 3 years. When I called up and spoke to a customer service rep the best she could do was remove the premium channels we had and reduce our speed from one gig to 400. That price is 193 for a 2-year contract so we are giving up are speed as well as premium channels and still paying more than we have before. I am a 100% disabled veteran and asked about any discounts she could give but she said those were already at it. You would think they would try to keep people rather than chasing people away. She told me she was a customer retention specialist but it's a Saturday morning and I wasn't transferred to anyone so I'm pretty sure she was a customer service representative. Not her fault she probably only had certain options to provide so I'll try to call on Monday and if we don't get anywhere we will get Xfinity where we get more than what we have now for $70 less a month for the next two years. Plus free DVR hours, plus $100 gift card, and, in my opinion, a better picture.

Verizon Fios does have a military discount. Verizon Fios Home Internet Military & Veterans Discount FAQs | Billing & Account

Look at the above link.

If they don't give you a good rate, simply go to xfinity like you wanted to do.

They love to advertise a military discount by showing people on their commercials who are in uniform etcetera but when you pull the curtain back the discount is minimal at best.

I have been getting over $50 off my Verizon wireless invoices for years now. Although it was not an easy process via sending in proof via fax (it was a nightmare since this is a communication company that makes it difficult to communicate with them) but after three faxes and going to a Verizon corporate store, it finally came on.

now on the Fios side the guy from Verizon said on my phone call that he can extend it towards my Fios service. He did. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s only $5 off my bill but hey $60 a year.

you have to look at it another way. Just because we were in the military really doesn’t entitle us to any discounts, the companies do it as a courtesy not because they are obligated to. It’s for good will. I don’t go looking for it but many companies have extended me discounts of 10-15% which is nice.

I agree 100% about the "requirement" for our discounts. I am pleased when they do but I never expect it!
In his post though he said it was already applied but the price was going up like it did. Even with the discount he had to pay more for less service which military has nothing to do with, NOBODY should get jammed up like that just because their initial contract expired! It is the same reason I left Verizon FIOS and Wireless several years ago. I came back to FIOS after 4 years because COX started jamming me up, I saved money switching over to mush better and more services! I know already that in a couple of years I will be back with COX if Verizon starts their games again. I will probably never go back to their wireless since I am paying so much less for VERY NEARLY the same services!
