For the past 3 months I have been getting a message at shutdown that Windows is installing 9 updates. This has been going on for 3 months and I have booted up and shut down with the same results. Has anyone else had this problem?

Why would you even create a thread here on this topic? You have not provided one single piece of information to indicate that Verizon or FiOS or DSL or whatever is even remotely connected to whatever your issue is. I suggest you take some time to understand how Windows service works, or you provide some specific meaningful information (ie, mesages, names of files or programs, when it happens, etc) about what is happening and why you think Verizon has anything at all to do with it.
If you would provide some details and show how it relates to Verizon I am sure somebody here would be happy to try to help.

Gotta agree with Justin here ... this has nothing to do with FiOS or Verizon ... it's a windows problem.
