More info...
I have a PC but recently purchased a Mac. I would like both computers to have internet access but don't necessarily need them to form a home network.

If your modem has only one port, purchase a switch and connet to the modem. Connect each computer via an ethernet cable to the switch. If you are using a modem/router combination you can connect the computers via the wireless feature.

If you want to run both computers at once, via wired connection, buy a small (4 port) router, or see if you can Verizon to provide you with a Modem/4 port router like the Westell 327W they often provide for DSL users with wireless.
The router would connect to the DSL modem, and the computer plug into the ports on the back of the router. There is some work involved in setting up the router, but for small, simple setup's, it definitely isn't rocket science.

I agree with you if their modem is not a dumb modem (non modem combo) OR as long as if their modem combo is not in bridge mode.

But that is not always true. For example my Westell 6100G is a modem combo but it does not have Wireless.

I agree about the wireless part as I also have the 6100G modem/router. There were no details in the posting about the specific hardware and there are several available with and without wireless.
