Connection Issues when gaming

Configuration:

Modem: Actiontek GT704-WG

Two computers:

Sony VIAO running Windows - wireless

macbook pro tiger osx. hard wired to modem.

I play World of Warcraft on the macbook pro and recently I have begun to lock up when playing game, but if I am just surfing the net I am able to do that at my leisure. To resolve the issue I am forced to shut completely down and restart. This can occur from a few times a day to nearly every 10 minutes.

I have spoke with Tech Support and I know the drill by heart.  Shut down everything....wait... repeat if necessary.  I have been told my modem is old, my computer hard driver is full.

If my modem is indeed old, then offer me another option. I am leasing it from Verizon. The option of my hard drive being full is laughable. I have 47g avail.

The most recent response by Tech Support: They found what they thing would resolve the issue and call back.  Never heard a word.

I have checked the speed Download 2.81 MB/s Upload: .73 MB/s

My frustration grows daily to the point I am ready to end my otherwise satisfying relationship with Verizon DSL.

#1 Go to http://www.portforward.com/

#2 Notice when there, there is three guides for the Actiontec GT704-WG.

a) Actiontec GT704-WG

b) Actiontec GT704-WGv2

c) Actiontec GT704WGv3

#3 Which guide is the guide for your Actiontec GT704 WG?

#4 What level of wireless security is your router set to use? Here are a few of ones that I have heard of...

a) MAC Address Filtering

b) SSID Hiding

c) WEP/WPA.

Ok, we will try it another way.

Go into the router and take a screen shot of the first screen that you see after you log-in to it.

I have looked everywhere for a place to attach the screenshot.  I must be missing something.

Hi ccscholz

In the window where you type your posts, there is a tiny icon on the tool bar, that looks like a tree.  If you click on that, you can insert the url where the image is hosted.  Many people keep a photobucket or other internet hosted image folder, just so they will have urls of their pictures and can post them to boards or discussions.

I can help, Call verizon tech support and request to have your line changed from "interleave" to "Fast Channel"  sometimes called "Fast Packet" and "Fast Path"  this will remove the redundent error checking from your line and will send most customers from "RED" connection status to "DARK GREEN" (thats great) the process is irreversable, but its the only option for the gamer, you will see improvment,  it will amaze you.   If the agent does not know what you are talking about as they may not,  tell them it involves escalating the issue to your MCO.  they should be able to figure it out.

#1 By looking at your screen shot, this is the port forwarding guide for your router.

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Actiontec/GT704-WGv2/GT704-WGv2index.htm

#2 If what Knowledgable does not help you, in your router go to Advanced Setup.

In there, there may be something about the IP Address Distribution.

If so, what is the IP Address Distribution, set to?

If you do not see anything about IP Address Distribution in Advanced Setup, then what is in Advanced Setup?
