I'm in nyc and having the same issue. It's been happening for the last few days. I have tried two modems and swapped all the cables with no luck. Just got off the phone with verizon and have a case. Said they will call me back within 24-48hrs.

@zadnor wrote:This won't really help anyone except to the degree that perhaps the more people who post regarding this problem, the more likely they will be to see just how dissatisfied customers are becoming and do something about it. I am in Boston. I have been having problems with my connection since April. I reboot my connection at least once a da. At least. It hasn't gotten awful the last three months and justhorrible of late. I have tried all the DSL 101 methods so I don't need someone I can't understand taking me through it again. Today it took me over 1.5 hours to download an uodate to an iPad app. That was lucky, mopst of my attempts don;t even connect. About half the time I try to stream something, I cannot. I used to get an alternation between a steady green and a flashing "internet" signal. Most of the time now it just flashes. Verizon gave me a new modem which helped,,,a little.
Be aware, Verizon gave me a number to call next time thingsd were slow. I have called several times, each time getting a message that they are "unusually busy" and wait time is over half an hour. It happens every time anytime of day. Note to Verizon: if it is always like that, it isn't :unusual" Today I decided to wait. I have been on hold for almost three hours. No lie. Three hours. So don't call unless you have time to kill.
Part of the slow speed issue you were seeing while downloading iOS or for that matter an iPad app is due to load on Apple's end. We have two devices here that took over two hours just to download a 900MB iOS6 update, and also another half an hour to download the app updates for them. The problem was due to tons of folks hitting Apple's regional servers, so the devices had to deal with demand from others.
If your Internet service however is always like that, I would consider seeing what the problem is and if there is a way to correct it. I've had DSL service for 7 years and as of right now it has held rock solid with a few blips, which is normal for any ISP.

Thanks for your honest and thoughtful reply. Nice to meet you. I work in IT & media technology in the NY Tri-state area. Live in the Bronx.
For two days now I have no internet service. DSL light is solid green Internet LED is off.!! Typing this at work. Called Verizon today twice and could not stay on hold for more than 30 min. Tried their Live Chat and was transferred in Chat 5 times. Finally they offered me a $2.00 credit for my pain and suffering for 2 days. HA!!!
FIOS is not available in my area. They stopped 3 blocks short of my area and I'm told will not continue anytime soon. I would do Optimum Online but I 'm not reading good things about them either.
Verizon needs to get their act together....
Appreciate your insight and willingness to help.
Nice to meet you too! On the other end of the state from you but I happen to also work in IT. Was Verizon able to fix that problem for you at all? If not, for those sort of issues before they start looking into your line both connectivity wise and network wise they'll have you reset the modem and try to re-configure it. But, as it was working previously it's possible you don't have a working route into the network if the modem checks out. I've seen this sort of issue take place when a DSLAM port develops a problem, or when the ATM Virtual Circuit you're on goes down or even if your line's provisioning gets messed with and the system fails to complete for example, a speed change. A line running on marginal signal can also cause that too.

Since we haven't heard back from you or have received a form submission as requested in your private support case, it appears assistance is no longer required. If you need any future help with your Verizon service, please make a post here on the forums so we can assist.

Is your post/reply directed to everyone in this thread or to an individual?
Plus your reply seems to suggest that Verizon will respond based upon these posts in this forum?
Please clarify.

I'm also having a horrible time getting knocked off DSL Internet. Its been really bad the past 2 weeks. I have tried all the usual suggestions: restart modem, restart gateway, reboot computers, etc. But I know this won't fix the problem, because the frequent disconnects (sometimes i get disconnected as i am reconnecting from the last dc) occur on both computers at the exact same time ( both wired network) and the router/modem indicates loss of incoming internet connection.
(Verizon Modem Actiontec GT784WN)
Any suggestions?

If you could supply some Transceiver Statistics that might help. If you log into the ActionTec at http://192.168.1.1 (which is default), click on Status at the top of the page and then click on DSL Status. You can copy and paste the information on that page into your next post.
Login for the modem should be one of the following unless you or someone else changed it:
admin/password
admin/password1
admin/admin
admin/admin1
admin/verizon

Your issue is due to the fact that your line is having some trouble maintaining connectivity on a physical basis. Your line is reasonably long, but it shouldn't be out of base for 7M service as you do have ADSL2+ in use. If you have access to your NID, you may wish to consider connecting your modem up to the NID to see if you can achieve some better results and statistics. Most modern NIDs have a test jack you can connect the modem to. If you can get to it, I'd lke to see the new statistics that appear
For information on what a NID is, take a look at this: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1317
