Need help with Evolution Email on Linux

I am running Linux Mint and trying to set up my non-verizon based email on Evolution. I can receive my emails but can't send them.  I have entered the server type as STMP, set server as outgoing.verizon.net, checked that it requires authentication, and entered my verizon username and password, but it still will not send.  If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated.

if you have non verizon based email, why would you be trying to use verizons outgoing server to send your mail ?

Well, it's "non-windows based" but works great on verizon.  Excellent operating system. 

Did you choose security -no encription in the account editor?  Also, under authentication, "plain" should be selected.
