Call Block - Limit Suggestion

While the call block limit of 100 would seem enough - it is not.  How much would be enough can't really be answered since Verizon refuses to do anything about spammers that obfuscate their phone number.  What would help is once a number is entered, put a date along with it so we can at least know when we entered it if we have to delete an old entry to enter a new one.

Amazing Verizon can do what the Feds want but can't block zeroed out phone numbers or others that have been masked in some manner.

How do we block a caller with a number that shows as "0" ?

The whole underlying structure, which is not defined by Verizon, would have to change.  Something that would take awhile to define and more time to implement.

Especially since many of these calls now originate from outside the US.

Might help if you could convice Congress to act, something they seem unwilling to do.

And just what structure would that be?  Maybe you could look at this:

http://www.verizon.com/about/news/press-releases/fios-digital-voice-heres-how-it-works

and then tell us what it is that is not defined by Verizon.  It's IP based and uses the SIP protocol - so what is so difficult?

As for where the call originates from is no harder to determine than a locally generated call.  Verifying if it's a legit phone number should also not be difficult if you think about it.  All calls are logged whether it be for billing purposes or not, the routing of the call is logged on every switch center (or softswitch) it goes through.

They don't do it simply because they haven't figured out how to make money on it.  If everyone said they would be willing to pay extra to stop the spam calls - Verizon would be all over it.

There is very little enforcement of rules blocking spam callers.  That is even assuming the Callerid's used are vaild.  Authorities typically going after a few of the bigger violators who are also offering fraudulent services.

Callerid is not based on IP services. And is a multinational standard.

Some easy to read info on it can be seen at wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID_spoofing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truth_in_Caller_ID_Act_of_2009

Note that truth in caller id act doesn't have enough ability to go after violators.  And note that spoofing is NOT even illegal in some countries, e.g. Canada.

I would like to see the phone services provide something like NOMOROBO service.  Note you can use NOMOROBO if you have simultaneous ring, e.g. Fios Digital Voice, but you do still usually get one ring.  Integrating such a service directly would make lots of us happier.  I think this would be better than each of us entering up to 100 numbers to block.

ps you do know that it wasn't that long ago that they raised the limit from 10 number to 100.
