NIC Template

After some recent phone problems. I decided to replace my interior phone cable. Like an idiot, I pulled the wires and completely forgot which color connects to which screw. The original color on the screws has worn off. Can someone go out and look at their NIC outside and tell me which wires are connected where.

I think you may be refering to your Network Interface Device or NID.

Each phone line (number) in your house uses two wires. For each telephone line coming into the nid from the street/pole, there are likely 2 connected black wires going to a green and red terminal. There are likely 2 or three pairs of red/green terminals in the NID.

From the NID going into your house, the wire is typically 4 wires, a red, green, black and yellow. Typically green and red is for line 1 and black and yellow are used as line 2 of as a spare pair for line 1.

If you are at all unsure, call Verizon and schedule a tech to help you. If you have an inside wire maintenance plan, you will be covered for any charges. If not, you can inquire as to what the cost will be.
