Receiving phone calls from people On landline and they’re saying that we called them when we did not

Receiving phone calls from people on our landline stating that they received a phone call from us  and they were returning the call. We never called these people and it’s happened several times with different people. Also our caller ID has not worked since we came on board with Verizon back in August of 2021.

Trouble #1:

it looks like your telephone number is being spoofed by a telemarketer. Unfortunately many of these telemarketers are based overseas. If there is an "upside" it is that these boiler room outfits tend to change the telephone numbers they send fairly often.

If the telemarketer is leaving a message for the callers, it might be worthwhile to see who they are calling on behalf of and try to contact that company.

Trouble #2:

What, if anything is showing on the telephone's display? Incoming calls should be allowed to ring say three times before answering it manually or by an answering machine.
