Ridiculous rates to Europe

Imagine my surpirse when I get a bill for $79 for a 20 minute phone call to Italy.  Verizon, you can't be serious.  $4 per minute?  That is disgusting.  Here I go again with this company.  I am sure that all the blame will be put on me that I did not sign up for their international calling plan.  But why would I?  I had Comcast for years and had no issues with international calls.  So I pay the price for not spending countless hours figuring out everything there is to know about Verizon rate plans.  Again, this is disgusting business practices.  I am already setting myself up for the battle that will ensue for hours and take time away from my life to dispute this.

 Comcast's standard rates to Italy are .08 cents/minute to a land line .25 cents/minute to a cell.  So tell me why Verizon is 16 x's more expensive than Comcast's highest rate?  What a joke this company is.

If you had Verizon International Single Rate - 300, Monthly Fee:  $14.99

you would actually be paying less per minute when compared to comcast.  It would come out to $0.049 cents per minute assuming you use up the 300 minutes to Italy per month (assuming this is to a landline).

Sadly, you are right about it being $3.95 per minute to Italy if you are not on any kind of plan...I don't know what you can do to justify not paying the charges though...good luck.

My sole point is that Verzion is price gouging on the rates to Europe.  There is no need in today's society and with todays phone systems that use the Internet for a company to gouge the rate like that.  I don't care really, about the pennies in difference between Comcast and Verizon.  The point you missed is that Comcasts normal rate is .08-.25 cents/minute with no fee and no International plan.  That is acceptable.  Verizon is at $4.  Come on now.  That is absurd.  I can tell you where this is going to go.  I will call on Monday, they won't be able to do anything and I will find myself back with Comcast soon.  The Fios experiment will be over as quickly as it began simply because of this absurdity.

Well If you don't want to pay the montly rate because you do not call every month, the cheapest thing to do is go get one of those international calling cards. Read the fine print because some of those cards minutes expire if you do not use them. I remember a $200+ charge for a call to Peru. I will not let that happen again.
