When you pick up your phone you should hear what is called a "Stutter" dial tone to indicate you have new messages on Voice Mail. You then must call your access number, which should have been provided on set-up, or you may be able to dial your own phone number and press * when the greeting begins to get your messages. The first time you call your password is the last 4 digits of your telephone number. The basic voice mail services are set normally to pick up after 4 rings so you must set your answering machine to less rings than that to have the answering machine pick up. If you have One-Point Voice Mail you can set your rings on Voice Mail. You cannot turn Voice Mail on or off, but must remove it from your services. You can read about your features here:

there should be a way to lookup you voice mail acess number on the verizon website

just enter you verizon home phone number and it should find you access number to voicemail
