Voice Mail

So I just got FIOS Triple Play and am very satisfied with it.  One question - I noticed that I have voice mail as part of the phone package. I have an answering maching and I don't need it. I also believe that there is a charge for it.. Can someone verify that, and if there is, can I cancel it saving the cost on my triple play bill?

Thanks for the help

depends on what phone service you signed up for.  I think the freedom package includes voicemail.  if so, then disabling it will not save you any money.  check on their website.

Interesting.. It looks like it is included but when I look at the features, there is a charge for it.. So when I uncheck those features on line, it shows a credit of 9 bucks or so...

I haven't received my first bill yet so I'll wait to see what that shows and if I can isolate that feature out, I'll cancel it.

thanks

Since the Voice Mail Feature is included in the Discounted Triple Play Bundle, I wonder if removing this service woould also remove the Triple play Bundle Discount.

Keep a close watch on your first few bills...

Sharkman,

Please update when you find something out.  I would also prefer not to use their automated voice mail, but am curious if that would affect the bundle contract.

Thanks

First, if you have a FiOS bundle, the home voice mail is definitely included at no extra cost.

Second, if you prefer *not* to use it, you can call customer service and remove the voice mail from your account. (This way, if you prefer to use your personal answering machine, you can do so at your preference.)

If you prefer to keep and use the included voice mail, you can dial your own number from home (to call in from another location, I believe the voice mail number should be available on the site, but if not, you can call customer service to request the call-in number). The temporary passcode will be the last 4 of your phone number, after which you can customize the passcode/greeting as you'd like. (No need to keep the automated "You have reached..." message.)

Hope this helps!

I'm very confused. When I verify my services in "managing my account", and "add/change features" it shows that I have voicemail. I can check that I dont want it and the result is a credit of 9 bucks. Again. I haven't received my first bill yet so I'll wait until I see it and then I'll call the billing folks and see if cancelling it gives me the credit..

Correct, I do not pay a penny for the home voice mail service, but I would prefer not to use it.  I do have the greeting personalized, but I still don't like it.  I would rather use my old school answering machine, lol.  Anyway, thanks for the information, I will be calling Verizon and getting that service removed.
