So it looks like I have spent $40 for a box that gives me the same as I had before??? I hope they don't charge me until I get the upgrade.

Actually the QIP-7232 has a 500GB hard drive, which is much more storage than the 160GB your old box had. Also the new DVR is much more responsive. I am also waiting for the new load, and would be very happy if I was not last, not saying I will be last, but my glass is always half empty.

I am in the Phill Burgs here also. I just called support and was told that it was pushed out a while ago and I should already have it, if not they could deactivate and reactivate my box to download it, but that would lose all my settings including the 40+ shows I have in my Series Manager. That has to be {word filter avoidance} how can you not force a reload of software on a box just like a nighttime update that normally happens?

Your area does not have 1.9 so sit tight.

Joe since your reply was once the strike is over then VHO8 will get image 1.9.  Ok, as of Tuesday 8/23/11 the strike is over, so when is VHO 8 scheduled to get the new image???

Next we go west... sadly we got a hurricane in the mix as well... that added a few days to clean up that mess.

Then back east...

Thats cool. But then right before you roll it out, something else is going to happen. I just know it. Be it a another hurricane, or another earthquake, or maybe mass black-outs. Or how about a meteor shower? Maybe another union strike? Or a gas shortage!!

100% agree. Either Hurricane, outage, earthquake, you name it, will happen not to allow Joe to keep his word about Halloween deadline. After so many promises broken, who can believe that in several weeks it will be done? I can bet that it's not gonna be finished by Halloween. By the way, Joe, I am former DirectTV customer and I know for sure that DirectTv  upgraded software for their boxes for ALL CUSTOMERS AT ONCE. They did it about 2 yeras ago in a matter of 30 minutes ONCE AND FOR EVERYBODY. I don't remember having any problem ufter upgrade. Their customers base noless then Verizon, so it can be done much faster!. Admit it, Joe, Verizon IMG development team way behind DirectTV and others TV  providers. And this is not proud position to be...

I believe it was Justin in a prior post explaining why Verizon no longer provide specific dates for rollout and I see his point.  People, why are we freaking out on what we view as a broken promise?  That's human nature.  Understand that there are certain items that are outside of the IMG development team's control.  Work stoppage and natural disasters are a fact of life and I don't view those as convenience excuses, but rather, legitimate concerns.   If the resources are truly focused on those areas and it means a delay in the 1.9 update, that's ok.

No inside info here but Verizon must have explored the possibility of a nationwide rollout  and decided against it for reason that we may not be privy to.  Direct TV may have done it and perhaps it could be done.  However, there is the possibility that  such an approach  could be a major disaster as any flaws with the update would impact the masses and result in numerous calls to the customer service and tech support, creating a customer service nightmare for all of us. If that's the reasoning,  I could appreciate the tiered approach in the rollout.

I am and have been looking forward to the 1.9 rollout in CA (following the thread posts) for some time and very excited about the new features it will bring.  Admittedly, it can be a bit frustrating waiting.  But I would prefer a rollout with as little issues as possible to enjoy a good user experience and not spend the time calling tech support.  Could Verizon have been faster with the rollout?   Possibly.  I am hoping that the development team is looking at ways to make future rollouts more efficient (unforeseen events aside)

I was actually joking with the team that it would be a volcano erruption or some horse men riding over the horizon... on the east coast this year we have had a blizzard, tornados, earthquake and hurricane... You just can't make this stuff up.

I am extremely proud of FiOS TV and especially IMG 1.9.  It is by far our best release, which I chiefly attribute to the iterations with we did with customers.

- customers drove the features... primarily you all here and on Twitter (plus some nifty stuff we thought you would all like)

- customers helped the design by participating in usability studies and focus groups

- customers helped beta test and decided what needed to be tweaked

Much love for everyone that contributed.  Myself and the team greatly value the time y'all invested.

We don't update all the boxes across the network at once because that's an IT / network management best practice.  Set tops and DVR's are effectively computers... no IT department would upgrade operating systems across every computer at once.  When we do an IMG upgrade from the firmware up all the way to the GUI software changes....

When we ship applications for the IMG (widgets are "applications", but so is the search function and other parts of the IMG) these generally take 1-3 days to get everyone the software.... way less complex software rollouts can go faster.

I am of the opinion that FiOS TV leads the market... but I am quite partial.

I am also of the opinion that FiOS TV and the1.9 IMG leads the market.  Sometimes when you have such a cutting edge product, which by its very nature is is very complex and always needs some tweaking, the update it does time ... better to have it done right and tested before being pushed out to everyone.   Good job!
