I'm sure this has been posted many times but I'm trying to update my Maiden name on my Verizon account and the rep told me that this might or might not require a credit check. The rep wouldn't transfer me to her supervisor saying he was "busy" and came back after 5 minutes saying this is the case.
Is this true? Is the only way to update my maiden name by doing an inquiry on my credit? Why is it that no other credit card or utility has requested the same? I guess I'll just have to leave my maiden name on this utility if this is the case.

Is this a serious inconvenience, a deal-breaker, an aggravating circumstance, etc.? Often it is easier to just let things ride and not change existing settings.
Of course it's possible that you really don't like your maiden name.
