Many online forums and bulletin boards have a main page that lists the most recent posts to the forum on the opening page. In other words, instead of only showing a list of forum sub-sections, the first thing a user sees when visiting the forum is a list of the 5 or 10 most recent entries. This makes it easy for the viewer to get a feel of what's been going on since his or her last visit.
