Cannot get/send email with Thunderbird any more

Last 4 or 5 days I have not been able to get or send verizon.net email using Thunderbird.  First I could not send email.  But I could receive.  Now I cannot do either.

I have tried the new outgoing and incoming server names and ports.

Can someone please give specific instructions and all parameter values for using Thunderbird v 17.0.2  with verizon.net DSL email accts.

I just tested TB 17.0.2 with the settings I documented long ago in the following thread and it worked just fine, sending and receiving:

Note that the server definitions were the old ones.

After I changed to the new server names, I had to change my authentication method from "encrypted" to "normal" on the POP server and then send and receive worked fine. I also did have to enter my password after changing the server names.

I am on FiOS, but that should not make any difference.

Are you getting any error messages? If so, what is/are they?

no error message at all.  The staus message at the very botom of the TB screen says  "Connecting to pop.verizon.net"   and the scrolling staus indicator just keeps scrolling light green blocks.  Does that for a minute or so and then nothing.

To me that suggests that you are not ever reaching the Verizon pop server for some reason. If that is the case, it could be something in your computer that is blocking access, or it could be something like a Bogon filter (Google it) somewhere in your path to the server blocking access.

About the only things I can suggest are:

1) Try starting whatever browser you are using without any add-ons.

2) Try a different browser.

3) Temporarily disable your anti-virus and firewall.

4) Turn off your router for a couple of hours to try to force getting a new IP address (will probably fix the problem if it is a Bogon filter blocking your access).

Beyond that, I am out of ideas at this point, sorry.

Assuming you can reach Verizon email with your browser...

You could try removing the Verizon email account from Thunderbird and set it up again. If there is something in it you don't want to lose, just rename the account or give it an invalid address instead of removing it.

If that doesn't help, you could to try uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird.

I'm very sorry, I have no idea where my brain was when I made my last post. Obviously using your browser has nothing to do with problems with Thunderbird, so please ignore items 1 and 2. But items 3 and 4 might still be useful things to try.
