To all who are having the email signin problem. I found out that Microsoft's security updates, specifically KB2585542 is the culprit. If you back out this one update and try to log on, it should fix the problem. I have duplicated it twice and it works.
If you go into Control Panel and go to Windows Updates. There is a link that will take you to Update details or List of Updates. You can then locate the one referenced and delete it or uninstall it whichever it might say.
Oddly, it is specific to Verizon, because I have another email provider and have no problem with logging in there.
I suggest each of us having this problem should submit an email to MS and also follow up with Verizon. Just a suggestion.

See my post. I was getting the same error. It is a MS Security Update causing the problem. I backed it out and was then able to log on.

When you sign in, are you getting the New Message center or the old E mail. I can not get to the new message center, and eventually (soon) that E mail page will disappear.

I believe it all started when Verizon tried to add its https security to the E mail site. I believe that their software is not compatible with Internet Explorer. Now all of the people I know are back to the Old E Mail page. Verizon must make their software compatible with Microsoft software. I have contacted Microsoft and should hear back from them today, I will not delete the update that may have caused the problem because it is a very important security update.
I have no trouble accessing the page using Firefox, but it is the old E mail page and not the Message center.
It would be nice if Verizon would acknowledge the problem and put up a notice and suggest a work around until they resolve the issue.
At least, these forums allow us all to see that this is a Verizon problem and it is widespread. We have several choices- Use another E mail service, Get another Email provider, or Get another internet provider. Finally, we can just wait for the Verizon software people to figure it out. .

topdog, if I sign in to Verizon forums, then I'm automatically signed in to my Verizon homepage. However, if I sign out and try to use the homepage sign in, I get an error message. Any thoughts as to why would that be the case?

I find the same to be true. I believe that when they attempted to put up their secure https email page, their software was not compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer software, and that is why we have this problem. I have contacted Microsoft and they are looking into it for me . No matter how you sign in, if you get in, you are sent to the old Verizon.net E mail page and not the new Message center, personally, I am not deleting any Microsoft updates until I am so advised by Microsoft. The update in question is an important security update.
Perhaps, I may be wrong, but I trust Microsoft more than I trust Verizon.

It worked! thank you.
How does one know that KB2585542 is the culprit? Or for that matter any specific patch fixes any specific problem?
