Same for me, same error message. As if running an email server is that difficult.....*grumble* Maybe they need to hook the NSA in more efficiently.

Is there any place where Verizon posts outages and estimates when the service is available again?

We have the same problem using Windows XP and Explorer 8.

Be sure to post on their Facebook page about the problem. Someone seems to be monitoring it.

Obviously (and irritatingly), Verizon's mail servers are down this morning; can't ping pop... or smtp.verizon.net.  This stuff happens.

My question is, how often?

What's more, is there a status page (like the Twitter status page) to visit to verify that, indeed, there are system-wide issue(s) and not some user-specific problem(s)?

There appears to be an email outage at this time.  A notice posted elsewhere in the site says to retry in an hour.  I live chatted a while ago and got a similar answer.
