IE 9 users not able to access email or billing due to recent Verizon change

I feel that the techs & those people that supervise them should all be FIRED for causing such a disasterous problem for Verizon customers. There was nothing, not a single thing or reason, that would have required Verizon to make these changes to the servers. Not only have they completely blocked their residential & commercial customers from accessing their emails if they use IE 9, but they have also blocked those customers from viewing or paying their bills online. And to make matters worse is that Verizon tech support's only help is to try to get customers to install Firefox web browser which is more vulnerable than IE 9. Makes you wonder who's getting a kickback or has some none public deal been made to push the Firefox browser onto customers in a way to force people to use it. Anybody able to read this should seriously start looking for a new internet provider because it's quite apparent that Verizon doesn't know, nor does it care to know, what & how they are affecting their customers. If enough people would change to other carriers, either internet, phone, or TV, then Verizon would have no choice but to listen. Either they would listen or go bankrupt. Verizon stock would get devalued & in today's economy, it doesn't take a lot to cause that.

1. Please clarify how Firefox is "more vulnerable than IE 9." Firefox is generally regarded as more secure than IE. If you don't like Firefox there are many other options, almost all of which are preferable to IE.

2. What changes are you talking about? You've complained thoroughly about the problem, but haven't given any details.

Real simple. I can log into these wasteful forums with my residential login but I can't access or login to my email with the same login from the Verizon web site. I used to be able to login for the past 10 years with it. Apparently Verizon made some sort of a change to their system that prevents anybody using Internet Explorer 9 from logging into or accessing their email thru the Verizon website. When you call their so called "customer support", the only thing they can suggest is to install Firefox until it's fixed.  That's NOT a fix. All it does is get them to force people to use a browser that they don't want to have any parts of. Since Monday is a federal holiday they've got until Tuesday to get it working correctly. If they don't then I'm going to start filing formal complaints thru the Federal Communications Commission, the Interstate Commerce Commission, the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission, and the Pennsylvania Bureau of Consumer Protection which is affiliated with the Pennsylvania State Attorney General. They had no right to just terminate usage to people that are using the most common internet browser in use today. I will also start looking into getting internet & phone service from other companies. They seem to think that they are the only company that can provide these services. They aren't. I will also be contacting my lawyer to see about filing a lawsuit against them for denying me access to a service that has already been paid for.

Somegirl, you have been very helpful to me in the past.  But, I am having the same problems that this person describes.  On two computers, one using Windows Xp with Internet Explorer 8 and the other using  Vista with Internet Explorer 8.  We are unable to access our E mail.  We get a message from I.E saying that the website can not display the page.  This is intermittent, but when we do get in we are taken to the Old version of the Email. We have been on the new version for quite a while.  We can also get into the mail by using the old verizon 2 sign in page which I have in my Favorites..  I have talked to three techs from Verizon and have been told to download firefox, reset Internet Explorer. delete cookies etc.etc. etc. One tech told me it was not a verizon problem, and the last one I talked to told me that he agrees wih me that it is a Verizon problem.  If you go to the Ideas page of the forums, you will find lots of others with the problem.

It would just be nice if Verizon would advise the techs so they can really help people better.  Many of them appear clueless as to what is going on.  I have learned never to make changes to my computer without seeking the advice of people that I know have more knowledge than I do.

Would appreciate your advice!!!

I solved this on my Windows 7 with IE9 by backing out the most recent Microsoft Security Update KB2585542. I did it twice to make sure that was the problem. It worked for me.

It seems to only be affecting Verizon tho as my other email provider I have no problem getting into email.

hope that helps...

This is happening on several platforms (windows vista and 7) and also with several versions of Internet explorer.

Being told this is a "microsoft problem" with IE because "Firefox works" is passing the buck. Someone at Verizon who designed the web interface is having a problem with Java on IE. The tech support engineer tried loading a newer version of java, this made the problem worse. The fact that this works fine with all other signons and programs, seems to indicate a compatiblity problem with Verizons use of javascript and IE.Also, even though reset was done for IE and restore settings under advanced, the VERIZON web pages display messages as Notes: in top left corner that are NOT accurate, for example, that popup blocker is enable, when in fact it is not.

The way java and javascript issues interfere with IE is really a programming issue/and normal users should NOT be expected to have to fix this--especially Senior Citizens who barely use computers except to get their emails and pay their bills. The lack of knowledge on how to fix this, or take resonsibility to Fix this issue is Verizon's,  NOT a microsoft problem.Hopefully the fix suggested by a good user on this forum will be helpful, but a better use of the Verizon techn support engineers would be to coordinate when they have widespread issues with their GUI and IE, not blame Microsoft.

If java cant be enabled properly to run with Verizon interface, then something needs to be addressed, and users need to be informed by Verizon of the issue and what they can do to fix it. Forcing people to switch from a browser that worked due to graphical changes with their login screens is unacceptable. Ive been in tech support, Microsoft offers hotfixes for their issues, time for Verizon to own up to this one..

By the way, the security updates that are referenced as causing the issue on another laptop, work just fine on another one which is running windows 7 and ie 9 and the updates had no effect on being able to login. On the older laptop which had older versions of java running it did.Java wasnt invented by microsoft. Registration of the javascript dll isnt working for some reason so the Verizon login boxes arent  displaying in one case or typeable in another.

Hope this gets fixed soon, because uninstalling and reinstalling IE isnt going to cut it with most folks over 50 as a troubleshooting step. And yes other browers might work, but try explaining this to your 87 year old mother.User friendly?
