For the past several days we have been unable to get email on either of our two computers when we sign in using either the Check  Email to sign directly into the webmail page or the regular sign in. It does work intermittently. We get the following message instead of the email page:

Info iconThe website is unable to display the webpage
 HTTP 501/HTTP 505

We can get our email by using the old email webmail sign in page which I had put in my favorites. the link for the old webmail page is:http://webmail.verizon.net/signin/

As of 6:00 AM EST, the logging in to email is fixed, but still the old email page.

This problem started for me right after Microsoft's  "patch Tuesday" for this week.

Two PC's running Windows XP, one of those is IE7 the other is IE8 have the  problem.

I am okay on a laptop running Vista and IE9.

Firefox works okay with Verizon email on the XP system.

Sorry - but I have tried a bunch of things but have not resolved it yet.

Please see the post from Topdog about the posts on Verizon Ideas page. There are many other posts there concerning this problem. I alerted Topdog to this page privately as we have been discussing this problem. The customer reps are almost unani- mously saying there is no problem. Some even say they have spoken with the Verizon software people, who claim there is no problem.  Many of the reps want to take remote control of your computer and  change all kinds of settings. They even want us to reset Internet Explorer. We WON"T let them do this and won't do it ourselves. Sometime ago we got the new Verizon Email page. Now we are getting the old one when we are are sometimes able to get into the email page. Until we decide whether to change to Comcast we are signing in for two weeks when we get in,as this is very annoying.

Thank you for the link.  I was able to check e-mail for the first time in 3 days.  I am also getting the same message.  s/w verizon rep on the 14th, was informed they were getting a lot of calls regarding this issue.  Stated website was down, should be back up within one hour.  Obviously incorrect info

I went into Control Panel, then into Updates and in the list found the four patches that were installed this past week. I then backed out KB2585542 and that worked. I duped it twice with the same results. I run Windows 7 and IE9.

I had the same problem and the same error messages.

ALso, whatever is in this security update, is only affecting Verizon since I also have another email provider and that one had no problems.

hope that helps...

I simply want to echo the post by ChellesV3 regarding Microsoft security update KB2585542.  I use Windows XP on one computer and Windows 7 on the other and both use IE9.  After installing patch KB2585542, I no longer could access my Verizon homepage or log in to my Verizon account.  After uninstalling KB2585542 by a system restore, I regained the ability to access my Verizon homepage and log in to my Verizon account.  I have chosen to hide security update KB2585542 for now.  Bottom line: if I want to be able to log in to my Verizon FiOS account, the installation of Microsoft security update KB2585542 prevents me from doing so.  I don't have any idea what the problem is but I do know that a compatibility issue exists between Verizon.com and the specific Microsoft security update KB2585542.

Are you getting into the New Message center or the old E mail page.  I can get into the old page by using the old sign in page which I kept in my Favorites.  I can not access the New Message center anymore and very shortly the old E mail page will be deleted and then I will not get my mail at all.

I too am having the same problem with the HTTP 501 & HTTP 505 error codes, I allowed a remote from a tech, and thought he had it fixed, seen the cursor going all over the place and changed a bunch of my settings,  became very uncomfortable with the changes he was making, think I will do a restore to 4 days ago, and hopefully that will work, but if the e mail is going away will not help me in the long run, have been a long time verizon customer for wireless and home phone, but this is getting very frustrating with not being able to access my verizon account e mail. I have no problems accessing my other two e mail accounts.
