Unable to set up new e-mail requirements with Outlook 2003

I've gotten the three e-mail and, today....one phone call, from Verizon "warning" me to change my settings asap.

It does not give instructions for Outlook 2003 and I have no idea how to make any of the other instructions work.

Someone, anyone, PLEASE help me????  !!!!!

Also, I hope I don't have to set up a new e-mail account.  I have over a decade of e-mail's I do not want to lose because my current Outlook 2003 may not be able to convert and I may have to do so as I understand the instructions.

PLEASE HELP ME.

Thank you very much.

I did just as you said for the last two hours and it didn't work.

After receiving your e-mail, I did it again.  Your instructions were what I was doing but for some reason, it worked.

Thank you very much!  (I'm saving my old settings "just in case," given how Verizon has been known to work crazy).

I have an IPad 4 with retinal display and the same problems are occuring when I try and switch my settings.  Do you have any ideas?

Thanks again.

The only reason I'm not saying "problem solved" is because I have two other PCs and one Mac to "fix."  As I did what you suggested but it only worked after you suggested it (???), I'd like to try and fix the others first.

Thanks again!

 Normally the outbound SMTP server has to be provided by the email provider, other wise if your email domain name is not part of the domain that the SMTP server recognizes as its own, it will not accept your mail for delivery.

You have to use your account to authenticate to the outbound SMTP server before it will accept your email for delivery. They do that to avoid spamers using their servers to send spam.

For example:

For my verizon.net account, I use smtp.verizon.net (port 465 with SSL on and password authentication).

For my gmail account, I use smtp.gmail.com (port 465 with SSL on and password authentication).

And for my live.com account I use smtp.live.com (port 25 with SSL on and password authentication).

They all work just fine.

SUGGEST YOU DELETE OLD VERIZON ACCT EMAILS THAT YOU REALLY DON’T WANT TO KEEP AT THE VERIZON SERVER.

DEACTIVATE OLD VERIZON ACCOUNT ON THE iPAD

ACTIVATE A NEW NAME VERIZON ACCOUNT  ON YOUR iPAD WITH ABOVE NEW PORTS THAT VZ IS REQUIRING .

ANY EMAILS THAT ARE LEFT ON THE VZ SERVER WILL BE DOWNLOADED TO THE NEW VZ ACCOUNT ON THE Ipad

I FOUND THIS WAY TO DELETE OLD EMAILS WORKS PERFECTLY A GREAT CONTRIBUTION BY A FELLOW VZ FORUM MEMBER

Re: How delete over 20,000 old emails messages easily?

To delete all of your messages from your inbox, go to the settings tab, and then go down to "Number of messages per page" and set it to "No limit". Hit "Save" at the top and then hit OK when it asks you to refresh your browser. Then in your inbox, check the box that is to the left of "Sender" and hit delete. It will take a long time if you have that many messages, but it'll get done. Cheers!

Tom,

Thank you, you've been a BIG help.

Would you know, step by step, how to change over the Verizon settings for an existing account in an IPad 4 with retinal display that was set up with the old settings ("incoming.verizon.net    outgoing.verizon.net ) etc.?

The Verizon website "step by step," does not match up with the screens and I'm REALLY hesitent to go into my IPad and try "fixes" as there is no "going back" like in Outlook with an IPad.

Best wishes,

tcmits

How to set up Verizon net email on the Apple iPad  iPhone  and  iPod

Hi. I have an iPhone 4S, and just had to change to the new Verizon.net email settings that were issued this afternoon -- at least that's when I received them.  I updated the incoming and outgoing email settings, SSL was already enabled, and changed the ports.  Did not work: "The Mail Server "pop.server.net" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account information in Mail Settings.  I did, and even rebooted the phone.  Same results.  On another post I saw that someone had used their full email address for the User Name.  With the old settings, just the portion of the email address before "@verizon.net" worked.  I figured I'd try using the full email address, rebooted, and the mail started pouring in.

 So recapping the full set-up (with maybe more detail than most use; I rarely change these settings, so I need to capture as much detail for myself as possible; sorry if it is too much for others):

Settings | Mail, Contacts, Calendars

Accounts = Verizon Mail

Account = On

POP Account Information

Name = <just your name as you want it displayed>

Email = <your full email address>

Description = Verizon

Incoming Mail Server

Host Name = pop.verizon.net

User Name = <your full email address>

Password = <your password>

 Outgoing Mail Server

SMTP = smtp.verizon.net

 -- then select that entry, and

 SMTP

Primary Server      smtp.verizon.net = On

-- then select that

 Outgoing Mail Server

Host Name = smtp.verizon.net

User Name = <your full email address>

Password = <your password>

Use SSL = On

Authentication = Password (before I didn't have Password selected; did it with this change)

ServerPort = 465

-- then hit Done (upper right), and on next screen Verizon on upper left

 -- near the bottom of the screen -- select Advanced

Deleted Messages

Remove = <your personal preference for this option>

Incoming Settings

Use SSL = On

Authentication = Password

Delete from server = <your personal preference for this option>

ServerPort = 995

S/MIME       S/MIME = Off

-- then select Verizon (upper eft)

-- then select Done (upper right)

-- then select Settings (upper left)

-- then escape out of settings

 Hope it works for you!
