Why won't Outlook 2013 allow me to set up a Verizon.net email account?

I got a new PC with Outlook 2013.   I've been trying to set up my Verizon email account on Outlook.  When i fill in the usual smtp/pop info it doesn't work.

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

I checked on the Verizon website and couldn't find any help.   It always worked easily with the older versions of Outlook.   Any advice?

thanks.

Check your advanced settings for the account. To use these ports, and not POP3 110 or SMTP 25. Also SSL

Try the following settings.  They work for me using Windows live mail.

Server information:

Incoming mail (POP3):  incoming.verizon.net

Outgoing mail (SMTP😞  outgoing.verizon.net

Server Port numbers:

Incoming mail (POP3):  995

Outgoing mail (SMTP😞  465

And of course the obvious:  verify and reenter your user name/password.

If you have a new PC you probably have Win 8.  Win 8 doesn't natively support POP email, so do a search on this issue and switch to one of the (many) email applications that will do what you want to do.  BTW this issue had been beaten to death and has nothing to do with VZ.  It an MS "feature."

I am happy we could help. At times it is not always easy to find the information, but many times if you know where to look it is there.

I hope your Email is working now. I was rather surprised to find that nice Email troubleshooting tool under Verizon support. It provides  a lot of information, and will also auto configure your Email. I did not try that tool because mine is working. Yes I have hear that Win 2008 does not support POP3, but I would need to try and use it to find a work around. Like the internet connector tool that downloads from a website. There must be a way.

I suppose I need to get Win 8 to learn how to support others. But if I do an upgrade and not a clean install, it would probably work?Smiley Frustrated

you have the wrong server names.

POP3 is incoming.verizon.net
SMTP is outgoing.verizon.net

These setting do not help the problem much. The sending with SSL selected doesn't work period. Unchecking SSL allowes sending but way too slow.

What is going on with Verizon email?

No problems that I can see. My Verizon email, using Windows Live Mail, works just fine using SSL, have been using it for probably a year or more now. I did try the pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net settings for the servers a few minutes ago, would not work at all for me. I am successfully using incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net, have been for 7+ years.

I think you have something set up incorrectly, but without seeing your exact definitions it is difficult to know what the problem might be.
