Dear fellow community members,

Beginning on Feb 8, 2022, VZ offers symmetrical multigigabit Fios subscription up to 2Gbps (typ. 2048, low 1500, high 2300Mbps) in select areas of the New York City. To learn more, please visit https://www.verizon.com/home/2-gigabit-internet/

The initial rollout is trial in nature and does not include voice and TV services. Voice and TV services will be included in a later rollout.

Calix ONT

The 2G subscription requires a new NG-PON2 ONT. Current GPON ONTs, such as Nokia 211, are not able to deliver speeds higher than gigabit. The new NG-PON2 ONT is provided by Calix with the model number 812NG-V.

Looks like there are only 2 2.5GbE LAN ports, not 3, for a total of 3 LAN ports.

I checked the pdf.

All three ports will support 2.5G. One of the ports extends up to 10G. Users who subscribe to 2.5 can utilize all three ports. Subscribers to 10G service will have one port that can provide that speed. If more than one 10G connection is needed, there are 10G switches out there, but they are expensive.

Today is the day!  One thing that hasn't been revealed is what Verizon is going to use for an ONT. Hoping pictures can be posted once the hardware starts to find its way into homes. 🙂

Looks very similar to the 211 minus the F connector. 🤔

I received the CR1000A today.  Not sure how widespread they are or not yet.
