Can't connect to internet

My Dell computer crashed and i had to reinstall windows software. Now I can't connect to FIOS. I know the router is working because the laptop I'm using now is on the same wireless network. It's probably something to do with settings, but I don't know what. If I can just connect and get to the Norton site, I believe I can retrieve all my missing files.

If you just reformatted your computer it's likely that it won't get to the Internet until you install/update the NIC/Ethernet drivers.

If you have the Dell system/driver disc that came with it use that.

Otherwise I'd recommend you use the laptop that works to go to Dell's website, look up the drivers for your computer model and download the Network/NIC/Ethernet drivers.

Put that on a USB thumb drive and install it.

After that you may need to restart depending, and then go about updating/installing all your need drivers/software/etc.

If you are trying to connect wirelessly you will need to set up the wireless connection on your computer.   Most of the time a wired connection will connect without any user effort, but some times you have to go through the steps to set up a network connection. So, either way open network and sharing center and see if you can set up a network.

Also, this is a good reason for using an external hard drive instead of the cloud for backing up your computer.

Whoops, I would gloss over it real quick and see that he meant the wireless connection isn't working...

Like walt said, check your Network and Sharing Center to see if the Dell detects your wireless network and then tell it to connect and provide the password.

If you want to provide the Dell model or more details it makes it easier to find out what, if any, drivers would be needed.
