Getting Verizon FIOS

Im having a little trouble understanding what Verizon FIOS is. What seperates it from other internet services. Also, do we have to rent or purchase the equiptment from Verizon? Or can we use our current router and modem? Thanks!

Are you looking for Internet only?

FIOS is similar to other ISPs.

They just use Fiber to bring the service to your house.

If you only want Internet, yes, you can use your own modem.
If you want TV service and Internet, it is best to use Verizon provided router.
