Moving ONT

I am currently planning some remodeling. As part of this, the wall where the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is mounted is to be removed. I am looking for any FIOS technical specifications to see if what I want to do will work. Where might I find this information?

Which specifications in particular are you trying to locate?

In general you can move the ONT without consequence, as long as you do not disturb the connection between the ONT and the fiber cable.  I think that's a very difficult hurdle.

In my installation, the install tech left a very significant length of optical cable at the ONT location, presumably for future repairs or adjustments.  However the equipment he used for the actual connection was quite specialized and even though I have quite a bit of experience with home network wiring, I am pretty sure I would not be able to duplicate what he did.  You are probably going to have to consult Verizon Communications directly for the changes you have in mind.

I guess my reason for being on this site today was to get in touch with Verizon Communications. Is there a location on Verizon.com to take this issue? If not, maybe the best number to call?

Thanks

You can go to support and click on the "Contact Us" button in the top right corner.

Or call 1-800-VERIZON

Thanks for the information, but it didn't help. I tried the online chat option on the support page. The technician on the other end did not have the information I needed and did not seem to know where to find it. The 1-800-VERIZON phone number tried to sell me some kind of a rebate card. When I didn't bite, it hung up on me. I tried it multiple times. Very frustrating.

Grego,  I'd say just go for it.  I am planning on doing the same thing and came here looking for the same thing.  I actually was concerned about whether I move the ONT and if something goes wrong then would Verizon still protect the components/installation to reinstall/setup everything to work correctly again.

I already opened the whole ONT once and examined what is inside.  The main thing you need to take care of is the Fiber connection to the ONT.  I don't plan on disconnecting that when I go to relocate mine.  If you support both the ONT and Fiber together (I plan on taping the cable to the inside compartment before removing the whole thing from the outside of my house) then you shouldn't disturb anything with the connection/connector.

Does Verizon troll these forums and lend a hand or some advise, or is this just a forum to talk to other consumers?
