Router Question

So when we first had verizon setup in out home, we bought the provided router outright. Last week, we had the ONT box replaced, internet has gone in and out since and the technician on the phone believes the router is out of date.

My question is, will Verizon provide us a new router free of charge since the the replacement ONT box was replaced at no fault of our own and the internet has been on and off since. If a new router is needed, shouldn't they have to provide it since everything was fine before they installed the new ONT?

The ONT replacement is likely part of the BPON retirement efforts. ONTs remain property of Verizon at all times and you do not own or rent it.

G1100 is NOT out of date and Internet in and out suggests a loose cable connection. Could you check the Ethernet cable from the ONT and the fiber optic cable? Do you see any change in status lights on the ONT when the Internet is out?

Given the Forum upgrade half a year ago, you can now upload a video here to show the activity lights of the ONT during the intermittent outage.

Verizon does not upgrade purchased routers.  They will replace defective units under warranty.

What model router do you currently have?  If you can't figure out the model number, post a picture of it.

When did you purchase it?

Depending on your current plan, you may be able to upgrade to a higher speed and get a free rental of their latest router, the G3100.  I'd explore this only if you're interested in higher speeds and if the current router is indeed out of date or failing.  Or if you're on an old, over-priced plan.
