I want to access my router settings but can't.
The site at 192.168.1.1 is buggy - when I attempt to type in my password, every character generates 2 to 3 more characters in the password field inexplicably. As a result, I always get my password wrong.
After trying to paste in my password, I got locked out for too many unsuccessful attempts, so it would seem that pasting has problems as well.
Thanks for any help.

I can't login to the VZ router
If you can't login to the router, it may be one of several things:
• When I try to login, multiple dots appear as I type.
This is a security feature and is normal.
•I used to login to the router with "password1" (or similar common password). Now that doesn't work.
In August 2010 Verizon changed the password of any customer routers that had one of several common passwords due to a published hack. The user name is admin and the password was changed to the serial number of the router*. The serial number is located on the service tag on your router under the bar code. Enter it in all caps as the password field is case sensitive.
• If you still can't login to the router, you will have to do a factory reset of the router.
The reset button is a recessed button on the rear panel of the router. Press it in for about 15 seconds (until all the lights on the router go out, then flash). After the router reboots, open a browser window to »192.168.1.1 You will be prompted to change the password on the initial screen. Any customization you have done to the router will be lost.
* - Per a post here, the password now appears on the service tag sticker and no longer is the serial number.

Oh, and I've been locked out since last night, despite not trying for almost a full day.

with all that said I believe you're going to have to factory reset the router to get it back.
If you have the two antenna red band router, then I believe Verizon can get you on by changing the PW without you having to factory reset it, but you'll need to do a chat or call in for that.

The dots in the password field are a security feature. Just type in the password. If you make a mistake, clear the entire field and start over.

One more detail:
You cannot paste a password into the router's login screen. It must be typed.
Good Luck.

Yep. I don't do it all the time as I use KeePass to automate the login (I am pretty sure it is pasting the info but I don't know for sure what technique it uses), but I just did it on my Actiontec Rev. I and it worked just fine, and I have done it many times in the past.

I have recently started experiencing a similar problem. It is not that the normal masking of each letter as you type that is occuring, The problem I see is that the first typed character produces 3 dots and the second typed character produces 5 dots etc. The number of dots depends on whether the shift key is used i.e. "b" 3 dots, shift "b" 5 dots. Cut and paste does not fix the problem.
I have reset the router and was able to log on using the default. Once the UN and PW are changed the odd behavior starts occuring.
I have made attempts from three different PCs and used three different browsers with no difference.
