I just noticed and started watching this channel (503 in Central NJ) - now, the it says "Programming no longer available" - what gives?

Lots of filings with the FCC.
" FCC ruled that WJLP does overlap coverage with WFSB in CT and KYW in PA, and therefore cannot use channel 3 since they already do." They were ordered to move from 3-10 to 33-1
They chose to shutdown rather than just move, at least for now.

Not acceptable, if channel 503 is not available there are scores of other channels available. Channel 19 (the other channel for MeTV) goes to paid programming after 10 or 11pm, I could not care less about some other station in CT that does not air in my area of NJ. Bring back the HD version plus stop airing paid programming on channel 19 (I would vote for ending "paid programming" altogether but that is a whole other issue).

None of this is Verizon's doing. The actual channels are fighting and filing with the FCC and courts. Supposedly WJLP is back for now with an extension of time from the original 11/10 date to 12/1.
