And now Verizon has raised the price for Extra Innings to $219, $20 more than a few days ago and more than Xfinity or what InDemand indicates on their website. I was actually going to subscribe but was told the $199 was just an "early bird" special. No thanks.

DUH! what did you think early bird means? Of course the price went up EVERY CARRIER raises the price on all the sports packages after a week ,! mlb ,nba, and nhl all give you a discount for for the first week of the season then after that it goes up about $20.00 on the price.

I'd also like to know why some games are broadcast only in SD. Tonight I am watching Detroit again and the game is not available on an HD channel. Why am I not receiving what I am paying for?
Not all games are broadcast in HD through EI. However, because MLB.TV is included this year with your EI subscription, you can watch all the games in HD through a connected device - Apple TV, Xbox, iPad, iPhone, etc.
FiOS EI and NHL Center Ice share channels, so once the NHL season concludes, there will be no conflicts and more HD games. It's also been my experience that the later starting games are the ones more likely to be available in SD only. So with the Tigers on the West Coast swing (I'm also a Tigers fan) they get shafted a bit on the HD. All their opening week homes games were in HD through EI.

I wonder if the problem you are seeing with the game blacked out, is actually the same one I am having.
It is not that the game is being blacked out, but that the prior night/day, there was a local broadcast that was blacked out, and the problem is, that the blackout is not released after the game is over.
As for the HD/SD situation, Verizon offers the MLB extra innings by just rebroadcasting the InDemand service, so they have no control over the offerings. If you want to get the fullest choice, you'd have to go to Directtv, since they are a nationwide service, and have all the local sports channels, so they can provide all the channels for you to choose from.
