verizon fios tv shows synopsis

Why is it when writing the synopsis' for tv shows, verizon finds it necessary to describe the race of a tv show; i.e. African American, Drama/Comedy, etc.   In predominantly Caucasion shows, they are not described in the synopsis as  caucasion.  It appears that verizon is alerting it's customers to the fact that they may be watching an african-american show.  Is it really necessary to do that?  As I stated previously, verizon describes no other tv shows by race.

I seriously doubt that Verizon writes the synopsis for a TV show.  Those are likely provided by a third party.  The genres used are not unique to Verizon.  The TV Guide also uses "African American" as a genre.  My public library has an "African American" classification.  I suspect all libraries do

Verizon does not create the Guide data, they contract with FYI Television Inc. of Grand Prairie, TX.

I really can't remember seeing that in a synopsis, but I don't see anything wrong with having it there. Just my opinion....
