Why Can't Verizon Customers in The Pittsburgh Area, Zip Code 15201, Get A Quantum DVR From Verizon That Is Compatible With eSATA Devices? Verizon Does Have Quantum DVR's In Other Parts Of The Country That Are Compatible With eSATA Devices.

The box is compatible but Verizon hasn't enabled the function yet.  Supposed to be coming in some future update.

AFAIK - no one has a VMS that supports an external drive yet (see THIS POST in the technical forum).

Last I heard Verizon had no plans to support eSata for the VMS.

That's what I heard as well, but of course with Verizon you never know.

No quantum vms/dvr's have esata enabled anywhere. Only the older 2 tuner dvr's have the ability to do it.

If Verizon enabled eSata for the VMS 1100 it would be less likely they could get you to pay for another VMS 1100.

I heard that Verizon's position is that current Quantum offerings meet or exceed the offerings of other providers.

Unless or until other providers offer more storage or external storage, I wouldn't expect to see support.

Tjis is in response to optivity post of 'If Verizon enabled eSata for the VMS 1100 it would be less likely they could get you to pay for another VMS 1100.'

I have to believe you are exactly right.  I can't blame them but the issue for me is I upgraded and had external storage for two of my DVRs that now are bookends.  What they should is enable eSATA for anyone who has purchased the second VMS recorder.  That would meet their marketing strategy and make their customers happy at the same time.  win-win baby....

Let me also add for Verizon to consider, if eSATA was enabled with the second VMS recorder then I would be more likely to upgrade to the second one.  I suspect they would sell more upgrades to the second VMS recorder sooner which may be a smart thing to do because people may realize they cant watch everything that is stored on e so may never upgrade to two.

Verizon employs many creative ways to impart additional cash from its subscribers. Howerver, since I already pay $212 per month for my FiOS package I am extremely price sensitive to any additional costs.

If I want a better router I have to upgrade to FiOS Quantum TV or subscribe to Verizon's 50 Gbps Internet service.

I wish Verizon would drop their whole MoCA over IP coax framework and open up the cutomer's internal network to 3rd party solutions.

But as with the old CableCARD 2.0 standard, it will never happen.
