It was over a year ago that Verizon and Motorola announced the new media server technology - there was a video , a booth, the whole kit and kaboodle- a year later we still have a dual tuner DVR and a zillion limitations every other vendor has already solved...time to move on from Verizon I am sure any other vendor will want my money...
Sincerely,
Completely Dissatisfied Customer

The reason why we haven't had it yet is because it was held up in court forever waiting for the fcc to pass it.
Last I heard is finally some beta testers have them and the latest rumor on a release date was late feb/early march. Actual release date will of course depends on how those beta testers report back to Verizon.

I suspect this was retention bait all along, and Verizon has no intent of moving in that direction. Third party devices like Roku and Apple TV are gradually replacing the klunky STB, to the benefit of the consumer. Do yourself and your wallet favor and return the overpriced STB's to Verizon and switch to Roku or Apple TV, etc

Some customers in select areas are now able to order, receive, and install the new VMS, starting in the last couple of days. Here is a link to a (very long!) thread about it, the link I am providing is part way through the thread, just after someone posted that they could order the new VMS:

So the rollout has started.....

I "chatted" with a Verizon CS rep. the other day.
She could not provide any information regarding if/when the VMS1100 might become available for Upstate NY subscribers
However,
She was extremely adept with an incessant push to upgrade to Quantum FiOS.
Once she realized I wasn't buying it was: see ya later... pal.

After what seems like years since they announced this - I recieved an email today introducing FIOs Quantum and it allowed me to pre-order equipment for the media server - so now I wait again - but progress...
here are the highlights -
You have 2 choices a 6 tuner 100 hours Media DVR or a 12 tuner 200 hours Meadia DVR
I went with the 6 tuner model -
I currently pay 39.99/month for 3 tv multi room dvr set up - the new Media Server 3 tv set up will cost me 49.99/month -
They waived a 24.99 upgrade fee for this deal and added a the newer Advanced Router for free - some savings there I guess -
net net - $10 more per month seems "reasonable" for this service ...
will wait for the delivery...

Its one VMS(dvr) or two VMS setup + IP boxes. Not a 12 tuner DVR.

Read my post in Bill's comments in the blog here. These comments talk about the final release dates, and I can say they are pretty much on the spot for Quantum TV!
I ordered mine installed it last night. In Maryland. Which is VHO-4 MD, VA, DC.
