I think I get it... To record on my VCR I HAVE to rout the signal from the DVR 6200 TO the VCR then the HDTV. Right now it is set up as DVR to HDTV using the hdmi connection, and I cant run a cable from the DVR output to THE VCR while it is connected directly to the HDMI connections.
Question is... if I change this so it goes throught the VCR will my performance be advirsely effected?

Yes, if you route your signal through the VCR, that will kill picture quality. Coax connections to and from STBs and VCRs cannot handle HD. You need to use three separate cables; one from DVR to TV (for TV/DVR watching), one from DVR to VCR (for VCR recording), and one from VCR to TV (for VCR viewing).
What you need to do is run (1) HDMI from DVR to TV, (2) composite video (yellow RCA) and stereo analog (red and white RCA connections) from the DVR to the VCR, and (3) composite video or s-video and stereo analog from the VCR to a different input on the TV. Then set the VCR to record from the appropriate input.
When you press record on your VCR and it will record whatever you see on your TV screen. There is no way to tune FiOS' digital channels with a traditional VCR, so you'll still change channels using the FiOS remote (or your universal remote). When you want to watch VCR tapes, you'll switch video inputs to the one used by the VCR.
If you have a universal remote like a Harmony, it will greatly simplify the use of multiple devices on different inputs.
