New HD tv

We just purchased a new HD tv set. Presently, we only have an STB. Do we need to have an HD STB or DVR to get the full benefit of the HD tv?  Right now, when we watch on any setting other than normal, the picture is strange... a bit distorted and stretched.  Thanks.

You need an HD STB or HD-DVR, and the connection needs to be either HDMI or component video to get true HD.

If your current STB is a QIP-2500, the best you can get is about 400 line resolution via S-Video output. Composite Video or RF output is even less. If you have a SD STB, you cannot receive any HD Channels, so you are limited to SD channels.

With HDMI or Component video you can have 1080 or 720 line resolution (depending upon your Set), on HD channels.

So you need either an HD-STB or HD-DVR, and a different connection to the TV to get true HD. You may also want to upgrade to the HD-Extreme Package to get more HD content.
