There should be no fee to upgrade my DVR that is 5 years old

Hi Verizon,

I have spent more then 1 hour ojn the phone just to have someone tell me that in order to get a higher capasity DVR I would have to pay a one time $49.99 Upgrade fee.  This is an unfair fee and I will not pay it.  I am looking to other internet/TV companies at the moment and will swicth soon.

I have the 7216 which restarts occationally while watching as well as makes a good amount of fan noise here and there.  I pay a monthly rental fee for this DVR.  FOr the DVR aloine in the past 4 years I have paid a grand total of $815.  Just to rent the DVR.  I should NOT have to pay extra for an upgrade.  This is old technology that still only sort of works.  With all the high def shows there is not enough room on this tiny hard drive.  I think all existing customers should get a FREE upgrade.

Since no one can help me I am switching soon.  If a FIOS rep wants to see if they can help me personally I am all ears.  Waiting on the phone to talk to someone who can't help me isn't going to happen again.  Im done with that.

The 7216 is similar in performance to the 7232. And a fair number of the 7216s have been upgraded to have the same size HD as the 7232.

Couple of options:

1) Ask them to replace the unit because it keeps restarting.

2) You could add a "new" DVR to your account and then turn in the old one. BTW, you could get anohter 7216 with the HD upgraded.

Do you have a FiOS store nearby? If so, you could just go do the switch for no cost. I've done that a couple times. Good luck.

I also recently went to a FIOS brick-and-mortar store (to turn in a STB I was no longer using) and, when I mentioned how tiny the hard drive was on my DVR,  they offered me a free upgrade to a much nicer DVR with 8 times the capacity of my old one.   If you can, go to a store in person and bring your DVR with you.   You should be able to get an upgrade on the spot at no charge....................I did.   good luck.
