Volume difference between SD and HD

I have noticed that there is a big difference in the volume levels when switching from SD to HD channels. I can be watching an SD channel and have the volume set where I want it but if I change to the HD channel for the same show the volume is alot lower and I have to turn it way up. It is like this with all of the HD channels on both of my boxes. Has anyone else seen this or know what is the cause?

Yeah its the audio channels SD have a 2.0 only left and right speakers. HD uses 5.1. So its distributed sound all around, and the main audio coming from one speaker the middle one. As far as I know there is no way around it. Unless your like me and only watch HD.

I've noticed it too. I fixed the problem on one TV but not the other. Go into Audio settings and put the dynamic range to High. This solved my problem on one set but for some reason has no effect on my other one, so I'm stuck. Try it and let us know.

Doesn't do any good if you're using the digital audio (coax or optical) outputs to a home theater system - they are unaffected by the compression or STB volume settings.

I can confirm that it is the same problem on Dish. I just converted to FIOS in Nov. I could never remember to lower volume when changing to SD channel. Used to scare the heck out of my wife since I have a big Denon receiver and some big Definitive speakers.
