Can't connect via VPN from home computer to work computer

I am having difficulty connecting from my home pc to my pc at work. Is there anyone out there that uses VPN software to connect from their home pc to their pc at work? If there is, do I need to tell Verizon that I am using VPN software to connect or are there some kind of restrictions that I do not about? Thanks.

#1 You have the correct IP address or domain name to connect to?

#2 You have the correct user name and password to connect with?

#3 Is the VPN server up?

There are different ways of testing for it.

Two of which are ping and trace route.

You could go to http://network-tools.com/

enter in the IP address or domain domain into the field, click on express and press submit.

#4 What is the brand and model of your router?

#5 What is the brand and model of your modem?

#6 What software firewall do you have installed on your computer?

Ok, I am glad to hear/read that.

What did you do to solve it?

If you called Verizon and got help from them, what did they have you do?

Verizon didn't do anything. The software that I was using was suppose to install a virtual adapter but the adapter did not get installed. Once I reloaded the software an adapter was installed and I was able to connect. Thanks.
