#1 When installing software that works along side my web browser, I make sure that the web browser(s) are not running before I try to install the software.
#2 Here is info that I found online about that error and how to fix it:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/error_1722.xml
[EDIT] I also found some info at

installed after some effort but linkes will not work; blue turns to purple when cursor touches. only access is to the troubleticket;
tech support gave up saying "best guess is norton is blocking it"; I am thinking of uninstalling norton and puttin gon verizon; i tried the turn off firewalll etc. but that did not work; what is curious is that agent was working prior to putting on a new router to replace the defective one. any suggestions?

Call Verizon's technical support department. Someone from that department should be able to help you out with that. I seem to remember having a similar issue with my in home agent installation. Verizon does have some good workers in that department who can even help you with remote access to your system.
