When I first purchased DSL, I only wanted DSL (dry-loop; no phone service). Was told that couldn't happen. I knew that it could, but didn't want to fight the fight at the time. However, four years later, and we NEVER answer our home phone, the answering machine screens all calls.
I want to drop phone service and keep DSL (have no other internet option), but I've read some horror stories from others who did that and then lost DSL, too, and then got re-billed for activation, etc.
I depend on DSL for working from home and can't be down, so has anyone had a SUCCESSFUL incident in doing something similar?

Verizon doesn't sell Dry loop DSL anymore. 4+ years ago they didn't either. They had a period for a few years where you could drop the landline and keep the DSL. These days, it's the same deal. If you cancel the landline, they take the DSL away. No idea why but you are correct that phone is not needed for DSL.
